Since bursting onto the world stage in 2011 the Occupy movement has waxed and waned, both internationally and locally in Australia. Art has been a big part of the movement and beautiful, iconic images have come out. From the initial graphics and call out from Occupy Wall Street calling on people simply to ‘bring tent’ to the huge meme of the Pepper spraying cop, and in Melbourne Australia, our very own cheeky tent monsters– creativity has abounded. Whilst it may be in hibernation mode in some places, it is certainly not over, as activists across the world who met and were radicalized by the Occupy experience are strategising, training and continuing to organise on a range of environmental, social and economic justice issues.
Here are a few amazing examples of creative art to come out of the Occupy movement wordwide!
